GLOSSARY Axon
- The thread-like part that comes out of a neuron and
travels to a remote destination. It carries electrical
impulses, which are the messages from that neuron.
Myelin - The insulating sheath around an
individual nerve fiber. It serves to convert the axon
of the nerve into a transmission line.
Ischemia - Lack of
blood flow
Histology - Study of tissues using the
microscope, often using special stains.
